My Top Picks: Discovering the 4 Best Beaches on Salento’s Adriatic Coast
Let me walk you through my favorite beach spots along Salento’s Adriatic coast. These are the places I can’t get enough of, visit after visit. My selection criteria are pretty straightforward โ I’m always on the lookout for that crystal-clear water and stunning views that just take your breath away.
Just a heads up about the photos โ they’re all taken with iPhones. And while they’re pretty stunning, they just can’t do justice to the incredible beauty of these places. So, what you’re seeing here is only a sneak peek. Trust me, what you get to experience in person is way more amazing!
Iโve lined up these beaches based on their distance from Lecce, starting off with the nearest one.
Mora Mora Beach
Mora Mora Beach is my easy pick when I’m looking for a beach day not too far from home, in Lecce. Tucked just a bit south of the city, in San Foca, this spot is a peaceful escape.
The beach is a hit for its pearly-white sands framed by thick greenery. It’s just the perfect spot โ close enough so itโs not a hassle to get to but far out enough to give you that secluded vibe youโre after.
The water’s so clear you can see right to the bottom, it’s a dream for anyone who loves a good swim or snorkeling.
Type of Beach
Mora Mora’s got this gorgeous white sand that just pops against the backdrop of lush greenery on one side, with the calm, inviting sea on the other. You’ll find rocks dotting both ends and even some scattered around the middle โ it’s a snorkeler’s paradise.
Plus, it’s a Blue Flag beach, so you know it’s very clean and safe. Super family-friendly, too, so everyone can have a great time without any worries.
Getting a Blue Flag is like a beach’s badge of honor. It means the water’s super clean, the environment’s well looked after, and everything from safety to services is exceptional. Also, they are committed to promoting sustainable tourism and ecological preservation through strict international standards. Oh, and just so you know, beaches all around Puglia often score high marks, so you’re pretty much guaranteed some fantastic beach time! ๐
Beach Clubs
Right as you come in through the parking area, there’s Mora Mora Beach Club. Here, you can rent umbrellas, sun loungers, and chairs, and there’s also a small bar, which is very convenient.
For those who prefer a quieter spot, there are also free spots on the beach. These are great for relaxing away from the paid loungers and enjoying the beach at your own pace.
A huge plus about this lido is their Mora Mora Bistrot del Mare, one of my favorite spots to have the perfect summer lunch. Sitting right above the rocks, this restaurant gives you this amazing view of the beach that’s just unbeatable. And the food? Absolutely fantastic!
Whether you’re in the mood for a full meal or just fancy sipping a local wine or cocktail at the bar, this is the go-to spot for that extra special beach day treat.
Beach clubs in Italy, or as they’re more locally known, Stabilimenti Balneari or Lidi, are your ticket to a hassle-free beach day with a bit of luxury thrown in. For an entry fee, you get everything sorted โ from your own umbrella and sun lounger to changing rooms, showers, and even lifeguard services.
Many clubs have on-site bars or restaurants. And if you’re feeling adventurous, some even have entertainment or water sports rentals. Just a heads up, prices can change depending on location, amenities, and time of year, so it’s a good idea to book ahead, especially during those busy summer months.
These beach clubs are what the Italian summer lifestyle is all about, mixing relaxation with a touch of luxury. They’re a key part of the Italy beach experience, making it super convenient and comfortable to let those gorgeous beach views in Italy totally steal your heart.

Beach clubs really are a lifesaver for my husband and me. The hassle of carrying beach gear it’s definitely not our thing, so having access to everything โ from sun loungers to umbrellas โ right on the beach is a joy!
Plus, the convenience of nearby facilities, like bathrooms and restaurants, definitely makes the whole experience much more relaxing and fun. Not to mention the parking. During peak season, a spot can be very hard to find, so on-site parking at these clubs is a big plus for us.
And hereโs something cool about beach life in Italy: despite the private clubs dotting the coastline, Italian law makes sure thereโs always a piece of the beach open to everyone, free of charge.
So, even among all the exclusive spots, youโll find stretches of the beach known as spiaggia libera where anyone can lay their towel down and enjoy the sun and sea. Itโs a fantastic blend of private luxury and public access, ensuring that the Italian shores remain welcoming to all.
How to Get to Mora Mora Beach – Location, Accessibility, and Parking
Located between Torre Specchia Ruggeri and Torre Dell’Orso, Mora Mora Beach is your perfect escape from Lecce, just a short 20-minute drive away. Itโs surrounded by some great attractions like San Foca and Acaya, where you’ll find the top golf course in Salento and one of the best in Puglia.
You can park super close to the restaurant for free – which is awesome, right? Plus, itโs really easy to get from your car to the sand. ๐๐๏ธ

Torre Sant’Andrea
All my top choices are incredibly beautiful, but Torre Sant’Andrea is exceptionally so. Make sure you’ve got your camera ready along with your swimsuit!
I still remember our first visit there, on a bright sunny day. The sight was so stunning it took my breath away. ๐คฉ

Type of Beach
Just like Posto Badisco, Torre Sant’Andrea isn’t exactly a beach. Instead, itโs this amazing stretch of rocky cliffs that meet the clear turquoise sea. And yes, there are spots where you can make your way down and dive right into the magnificent water!
It’s another Blue Flag spot with water as clean as it gets. When you go swimming, it feels like you’ve entered a massive natural aquarium, where you get to see all the local wildlife and plants.
You’ve got everything from fish to algae, and even crustaceans โ an underwater experience that’s just as unforgettable as the views above. ๐ ๐
Also like Porto Badisco, getting to the beach at Torre Sant’Andrea can be a bit tricky because of a steep slope that leads down to the rocks by the sea. There are stone steps to help you out, but I’d definitely recommend bringing along a pair of beach shoes to make the trek easier and safer.
Beach Clubs
Torre Sant’Andrea doesn’t really have the typical beach clubs, but no worries! There are still some fantastic spots to chill out and grab a bite with killer views!
Check out Babilonia – it’s always buzzing with energy. They have delicious pizzas and cocktails, all in a lively Italian setting.
And if you’re after something different, head over to Confine nearby. It’s this bar and restaurant where you can get everything from your morning coffee to mouthwatering seafood dishes and pizza.
Both these places are perfect for just kicking back and soaking up the moment!
How to Get to Torre Sant’Andrea – Location, Accessibility and Parking
Torre Sant’Andrea is just an easy 30-minute drive from Lecce, making it an easy day trip.
Pro tip: Getting there early is the key to securing a good parking spot. The lot near the beach tends to fill up fast, especially during peak season.
To make life easier, use the EasyParking App to sort out your parking โ it’s so much easier than trying to get a ticket from the local totem. Just keep an eye on the clock, so you donโt overstay and end up with a fine.
Alimini Beach
Not too long ago, I’d have pointed you straight to Torre dell’Orso for its wide sandy shores and crystal-clear waters, plus those iconic ‘Due Sorelle’ sea stacks. But, with its growing popularity, it’s started to feel a bit too crowded to enjoy, especially when the Italian summer crowds arrive.
So, recently I’ve shifted to Alimini Beach, near Otranto. This place is just as beautiful, with its wide sandy stretches and transparent waters, but with a bit more breathing room. Nestled in a natural reserve, Alimini Beach offers a stunning backdrop where the peaceful Alimini Lakes meet the sea.
Not to forget the nearby stunning Baia dei Turchi. This bay takes its name from the historical tragic event in the 15th century when Turkish invaders landed on its shores. Today, it stands as a natural sanctuary surrounded by a lush forest.
And you canโt talk about the area without mentioning the breathtaking Baia dei Turchi. This bay gets its name from a bit of a dramatic history โ back in the 15th century, it was where Turkish invaders made their landing. Now, it’s a natural sanctuary surrounded by a dense forest.
Type of Beach
Alimini Beach is a sandy beach known for its soft, light sands and clear, very blue waters. It is a perfect spot for families and water sports enthusiasts alikeโโ. You will find many options there, from various water sports to hiking and nature watching.
This beach is perfect for nearly everyone. Families and children will have a fantastic time, and the infrastructure nearby is excellent. You’ll also find a variety of beach clubs, each offering its own benefits (and costs).
Beach Clubs
For a beach day like no other, CocoBay is one of my favorite beach clubs around here.
It’s got everything you need for an outstanding beach day โ from delicious dining options to great beach amenities and fantastic service. You’re guaranteed a fantastic time here!
Plus, CocoBay makes life easier with private parking you can reserve while booking the beach club. If it’s full, theyโve got you covered with a free shuttle service from the nearby parking area. Itโs all about enjoying the day without a worry! ๐
And just next door, Kum Beach Club is also a fantastic choice for that perfect beach day!
Both spots are awesome, so you really can’t go wrong.
How to Get to Alimini Beach – Location, Accessibility, and Parking
Alimini Beach is only a 30-minute drive from Lecce. Nestled perfectly between Torre Sant’Andrea and Otranto, itโs a spot you won’t want to miss!
Now, about parking โ it’s a bit of a different story. Just south of the beach, you’ll find a few large parking areas. Each one comes with its own shuttle service, making your trip to and from Alimini Beach super smooth and convenient.
However, near the entrance of the Lidos and close to the bridge, you’ll find the designated Strisce Blu area. Trust me, it’s hard to miss, and that’s usually where I find my spot. ๐ ฟ๏ธ
Right at the Strisce Blu entrance, you’ll also notice a private parking area for CocoBay. It’s typically reserved for season pass holders, but don’t hesitate to check in with them. You never know, it could just be your lucky day!
In any case, if you’re getting in after 9:00 AM during the peak season, finding a parking spot can start to feel like a bit of a challenge.

And, since we’re talking about a regulated Strisce Blu area (that means, a paid parking marked with those unmistakable blue lines), you’ll need to buy a ticket from the nearby totem.
To skip the parking hassle, I strongly recommend using the stress-free EasyParking App. Trust me, youโll be thanking me later!
JOIN A TOUR IN OTRANTO
As you will be very close by, there are some top-rated tour options available in Otranto for you to check out. Theyโre a great way to get a taste of the regionโs history and culture. Plus, they’re a lot of fun!
Otranto and Surroundings on a Full-Day Bike Tour – This 8-hour off-the-beaten-track bike tour offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural splendor, taking you through ancient ruins, a Byzantine crypt, and the stunning bay of Porto Badisco. Savor a traditional local lunch cooked in a stone oven, and refresh with an iced coffee as you explore breathtaking coastlines and rural landscapes. Plus, enjoy swimming or canoeing options for an extra splash of adventure. A perfect way to experience Otranto and its surroundings!
Otranto’s Charm on a Guided Walking Tour – Wander for around 2 hours through the heart of this beautiful coastal town with a local guide, admiring its stunning landscapes and uncovering its rich history, including the ancient Aragonese castle and the breathtaking mosaic in the Cathedral of Annunciation.
Porto Badisco – The best place to swim
I absolutely love Porto Badisco! This stunning place is my secret escape that still isnโt overly packed with visitors โ though, a little tip, try to avoid it in August if you can. Diving into the waters here feels like you’re swimming in a natural pool, but infinitely better!

Just a heads up, though, I’m not referring to the main Porto Badisco Beach โ the one that used to have a Lido. The local government is currently transforming that area. Instead, Iโm talking about the rocky southern side. You can find this little slice of paradise right across from the local Bar da Carlo.
And while you’re there, make sure to grab breakfast, and maybe even lunch, at the super charming Bar Da Carlo. It’s a fantastic spot that’s a hit with the locals (me included! ๐).
It even won the 2023 Locale Storico Patrimonio di Puglia award, so you know it’s something special. Start your day right with their delicious, fresh pastries, and come back for a delicious and fresh buffet at lunch. Really, itโs an experience you shouldnโt miss.
Then, don’t miss out on Skafรจ al Casotto when looking for a Lido. The views, setting, and service there are truly unforgettable. It’s one of those places that make a beach day perfect.
Very close by, you’ll find the Grotta dei Cervi, housing the most impressive Neolithic painting complex in Europe. Initially called the Cave of Aeneas, it’s inspired by the legend that Aeneas first set foot in Italy right here at Porto Badisco.
The cave’s name, which translates to ‘Cave of the Deer’, comes from the discovery of pictograms depicting deer. Sadly, this historical site isn’t open to the public, but its proximity adds a layer of mystique and history to your visit.
Type of Beach
As I mentioned before, the spot I’m talking about isn’t exactly a beach but more of a rocky bay.
Yet, that shouldn’t stop you โ accessing the water is very easy thanks to some conveniently placed stone steps. You’ll see from the photos that it’s popular with people of all ages. To keep it safe, though, I’d recommend packing a pair of beach shoes.
However, I wouldn’t say it’s particularly kid-friendly โ a sandy beach may be a better fit for them. And for those with mobility issues, it might be best to avoid it too, as the rocky terrain can be challenging.
The water here is as clean as it gets, a truly natural swimming pool, just with salty water. Thanks to its hidden away location, this spot often becomes a sheltered haven when the winds across Salento start to pick up.
And let’s talk about those winds for a secondโthey’re a staple in Puglia, making a real difference in how you experience the beaches. Knowing which way the wind is blowing can be the key to a perfect beach day.
Salento’s a truly special place where you can enjoy not just one but two seas: the Adriatic and the Ionian. And guess what? The wind plays a big part in deciding where you’ll want to lay your beach towel for the day. Then, keep an ear out for the Tramontana and the Scirocco winds. ๐
The Tramontana wind, cool and coming from the north, shakes things up a bit on the Adriatic side. It can get a bit lively for those of us who love to unwind in gentle waters or for kids who are all about fun in calm waves.
As for the Scirocco, well, that’s another story. Coming in from the southeast, it warms things up and might make the Ionian side feel warmer, sometimes even making the water a bit more choppy than some would prefer. But, there’s a bright side: with the Scirocco around, the Adriatic coast becomes a little slice of heaven if you are looking for calm seas and a peaceful beach day.
Once you’re here, getting clued up on the day’s wind can really pay off. Whether you’re all about soaking up as much sun as possible in a tranquil spot or you’re itching to hit the waves, knowing which way the wind’s blowing in Salento can help you pick the perfect beach spot, making sure your Italian seaside holiday is as perfect as you’ve imagined.
So, it’s super important to understand the wind patterns in this area. To stay on top of the wind forecasts, I rely on two apps: Wind Hub and Punto Mare. The free versions of both have been incredibly useful for planning out my beach days here.
Beach Clubs
I absolutely love Skafรจ al Casotto, the local Lido, thanks to its amazing location, stunning views, and comfy beach umbrellas and loungers.
Kicking back with a glass of the local vino, some snacks, and just soaking in the vibes is my kind of day!
However, when it comes to grabbing a bite, the charming Bar Da Carlo steals the show for me with its unbeatable variety and exceptional quality.
Just a tip: make sure to book Skafรจ al Casotto ahead during the busy season, or you might miss out on this fantastic experience. ๐
How to Get to Porto Badisco – Location, Accessibility, and Parking
Getting to Porto Badisco by car is really easy. It’s less than 8 km away from Otranto and under 50 km from Lecce, roughly a 40-minute drive.
Nearby, youโll find a convenient paid parking lot, along with a handful of free parking options scattered around the area. Youโll easily spot them as you draw closer.
Personally, I always opt for the paid parkingโitโs a small price to pay for peace of mind and to avoid any unexpected surprises.
To get to the Lido and swimming spot, just take the path right across from Bar Da Carlo. You’ll probably spot locals heading that way tooโit’s a sure sign you’re on the right track.
And if you’re not driving, no worries! During the summer months, the Salento in Bus Line 105 offers a convenient connection from various places, including Lecce and Otranto, straight to Porto Badisco. It’s a great option that makes this stunning place accessible to everyone.
Bonus Tip! Piscina Naturale di Marina Serra
You also have to check out the Piscina Naturale in Marina Serra. Itโs technically not your typical sandy beach, but trust me, this place is unreal!
Itโs a naturally carved swimming pool, just waiting for you to dive in. The water here is crystal clear and a perfect turquoise. You can swim or just float around and take in the rugged cliffs surrounding you.
Itโs great for a chill day in calm waters. Plus, since itโs off the beaten path, it tends to be less crowded than some of the big-name beaches.

Practical Tips for Visiting Salentoโs Adriatic Beaches
Exploring Salento’s stunning coastline is an unforgettable experience, but knowing a few practical tips can make your visit smoother. First off, you probably noticed that all my beach-hopping advice leans heavily on getting around by car.
There’s a good reason for that. Traveling around by car is much more convenient, and outside of the peak season (typically from June 15 to September 10), it might be your only real option.
If you’re visiting during the busy season, though, there’s good news: the Salento in Bus service is available! It covers almost the entire Adriatic and Ionian coasts, reaching down to the tip of Salento, making sure no stunning spot is out of reach.
Renting a car is hands down the best bet for getting around. It gives you the freedom to check out every must-see spot, hidden beach, and charming corner at your own pace. Whenever I need a car, I use Discover Cars to pick the best option and go from there.
Don’t skimp on sun protection โ trust me, the Mediterranean sun doesn’t hold back. Arm yourself with high-SPF sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. And always stay up-to-date with local insights on currents and swimming safety, super important if you’re beach-hopping with kids.
For accommodations, I recommend choosing Lecce as your base. From there, you can easily visit different locations. Lecce makes an excellent central point for exploration, including the beaches on the Adriatic side, the ones on the Ionian side, and the many small towns around Salento.

Moreover, being a larger city, you’ll benefit from numerous attractions, hotels, and restaurants in Lecce to explore when you return from the beach.
DON’T MISS my LECCE GUIDE FOR THE ULTIMATE LECCE EXPERIENCE!

I’ve shared my favorite hotel picks in Lecce both at the beginning and the end of this post, just so you have them handy. But if you want some extra recommendations, definitely dive into my detailed guide to The Best Hotels in Lecce. You’ll find a fantastic selection of options there.

Finally, the best time to visit beaches in Puglia is from late May to early June, or September up to early October. You’ll avoid the peak summer crowds while still enjoying warm, sunny weather. This way, you get to explore Salento’s gorgeous coastlines with plenty of room to breathe and relax.
Travel insurance? Seriously, don’t overlook travel insurance. It’s that peace of mind you’ll want for any surprises, ensuring you’re all about the journey, not the ‘what-ifs’.
I use VisitorsCoverage for my travels as it’s super user-friendly and nails my needs perfectly. It’s not just meโthere’s a whole crowd of satisfied travelers, proven by their impressive 4.8 Trustpilot score.

FAQs – Best Beaches in Salento, Puglia – Adriatic Coast
Which part of Puglia has the best beaches?
Choosing the perfect beach really comes down to personal taste and what you’re looking for. My personal favorites are all located along the Adriatic Coast of Salento: Mora Mora Beach, Torre Sant’Andrea, Alimini Beach, and Porto Badisco.
Keep in mind, there are also other great beach spots along the Ionic coast, as well as in the Bari and Gargano areas.
What is the difference between Salento and Puglia?
Salento is a geographic and cultural region located in the southern part of Puglia, Italy.
While Puglia covers the entire ‘heel’ of Italy’s boot-shaped peninsula, Salento sits in its southern tip, including the provinces of Lecce, portions of Taranto, and areas of Brindisi.
Which Puglia beach is like the Maldives?
The beach that often earns the nickname “the Maldives of Puglia” is Pescoluse, found on the Ionian coast in the Salento area. This stunning stretch of coastline is famous for its fine, white sand and crystal-clear, turquoise waters, which indeed look a lot like the tropical paradise of the Maldives.
Where should I base in Salento?
For a truly immersive experience in Salento, Lecce is a great choice for a base in Salento. Known as the ‘Florence of the South,’ it stands out with its baroque architecture, vibrant life, and rich history.
Its central location is ideal for day trips all across Salento, from the Ionian and Adriatic beaches to charming historic towns like Gallipoli, Otranto, and Santa Maria di Leuca.
Plus, Lecce itself is full of cultural offerings, including delicious local cuisine, artisan shops, and lively markets.
Are there sandy beaches in Puglia?
Absolutely! Puglia is home to a variety of sandy beaches along both the Adriatic and Ionian seas, offering diverse options for beach lovers. On the Adriatic side, the sandy beaches include Mora Mora and Alimini Beaches.
Over on the Ionian Sea, beaches like Torre Lapillo, Pescoluse, and Punta Prosciutto are particularly famous for their fine, soft sand and crystal-clear waters.
And for those exploring the Gargano Peninsula, sandy shores like Vieste and Peschici offer something for every taste. Not to mentioned the Tremiti Islands Paradise.
